VitalLife ID
Pros: As with most portable medical IDs in the market,
the VitalLife ID Card easily fits into any wallet. It’s a plug-and-play
device – just connect the USB connector to any computer USB port, and the
ID card automatically launches the software and its stored information.
The medical ID allows emergency personnel to view a patient’s medical data
and make timely decisions when an emergency situation prevents a patient
from communicating with healthcare givers. The card is durable and resistant
to damage. In the event that the card gets broken or destroyed, customers
are guaranteed a free replacement. VitalLife stores all information in a
secure server. When the user damages or loses the card, VitalLife retrieves
all the user’s medical information, and then uploads it into a replacement
card. The VitalLife ID can store up to 500 scanned medical documents.
Cons: Cost is the major drawback of VitalLife ID. One ID
costs $119.95 plus $5.95 for handling and shipping fees. While files can
be viewed without an Internet connection, integrated software is compatible
with Windows, Vista, and Linux OS only; files will not run on Mac computers.
Computer must have a built-in PDF Reader or support HTML format; otherwise,
one can’t view stored information as well. It takes about 24 hours before
members receive their username and password. No online PHR management service
is available.
The Bottomline: VitalLife ID is a credit card-sized card
that integrates a software-ready flash drive to house your most important
medical information. The USB is portable, and it works on most computers.
Stored information is not tied to a web-based PHR, so information can be
accessed even without an Internet connection. The card is extremely easy
to carry and use, but given the lack of an online backup, it’s pricier than
similar products on the market.

Summary:
VitalLife ID is a secure, portable
storage device for storing, organizing, and accessing one’s medical records.
Information is categorized into two parts depending on intended use. One
section is reserved for emergency uses, and the other is for regular hospital
visits. Some sections of the card are encrypted, while some are not.

Features:
____________________________________________________________
Emergency Data
This section contains the user’s basic personal info, emergency contacts,
blood type, list of current medication, and chronic medical conditions.
This section is not locked, allowing emergency responders to have instant
access to the patient’s most critical medical information during an emergency
situation.
Historical Personal Data
This section contains the user’s complete medical information, from weight
to current medical conditions. This is also where a user stores scanned
or digitized medical documents, such as x-ray and EKG results. This section
is what the patient shows the staff during hospital visits.
Password Protected/ Encrypted Section
This is the most secure part of the VitalLife ID. This section provides
a safe and secure storage space for sensitive information, such as insurance
and financial information.
Medical Information Update Feature
To update card information, the user needs to log in to the VitalLife website.
Once changes have been made, the user simply presses the “Transfer from
Internet to Card” link to start the synchronization process.
