The Blue Button Initiative

The Blue Button Initiative is a new feature of the personal health management tool, MyHealtheVet, a resource for US Veterans, soldiers on active duty, and their families and caregivers. MyHealtheVet is a secure cloud-based application that allows Veterans and their families to organize, store, track, and maintain accurate medical and health records. Because it is Internet based, it is constantly available at anytime from anywhere with an Internet connection.

MyHealtheVet + Blue Button Initiative



Blue Button is the result of a collaboration of The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA), and the Department of Defense. It is designed to provide thorough, detailed reports of the information entered into MyHealtheVet. Those who have completed the In Person Authorization Process can also access information from VA records as well.

MyHealtheVet consists of user entered information such as blood sugar readings, blood pressure, weight, emergency contacts, test results, health history, family history, and any other significant health related data. If the Personal Authorization Process is completed, VA electronic files, including appointments and other Blue Button customization options are available.
