PEHRTech

Pros: The Bartlett PEHR Tech’s USB-based application is ultra-portable. It’s a plug-and-play tool, allowing you, your primary care physician, or any medical or emergency personnel to access your medical information quickly and easily. Data is password protected, ensuring security of stored information. It can store scanned medical images such as X-rays and ECG results. The user interface is well-designed, allowing you to input or view data conveniently.

Cons: While the lack of web-based data keeps your personal health information safe from hackers, it doesn’t give you a fail-safe backup in case you lose or damage your card. Of course, users can create a backup on their home computer, but that means you need to a lot space on your PC for your PEHR. Storage space, which ranges from 128MB to 1GB, is limited, but the attached prices are higher than average, ranging from $39.95 to $69.95. The software will run on Windows computers only; if you have a Mac computer, you might want to look for a portable PHR somewhere else. There is no demo available, so users are not able to test the interface before purchase.

The Bottomline: The Bartlett PEHR Tech is a portable, flash-based personal health record tool. It is the perfect health solution for travelers and commuters, as well as for anyone who wants to have their health data immediately available during hospital visits or emergency cases. The Bartlett PHR solutions are not for people on a small budget – there are many free PHR systems on the web – or for people who feel more comfortable with online-backed up PHR solutions.

Alert Screen
During emergency situations, the Alert Section is the only page that is available to emergency personnel. It is not password-protected, allowing them to access your files even without your permission. This feature is particularly useful when the patient is unconscious. Only important medical information is displayed on the page: photo (for identification), age, emergency contacts, allergies, conditions and current medications.

Image Results
PEHRTech lets you add scanned documents such as EKG, colonoscopy, and X-rays, allowing your physician to quickly pull up previous test results and compare them with your current test results. The image results section features a table where you can add the date, type/test description, and name of personnel conducting the test.
