MyMedLab

Pros: This is a site for users to request and pay for their own medical laboratory tests as well as monitoring results via PHR.

Cons: There is no cost to creating a PHR, but all testing is paid for out of pocket. There are risks inherent in receiving medical test results without the advice of a physician.

The Bottomline: The PHR is not sorted by subject – it is one long form. The real purpose of this site is to sell lab testing. This is unsafe and potentially dangerous without a physician to order and interpret results. Not recommended.

Summary:
MyMedLab is a website that offers lab testing. All services are paid for by the patient. The PHR does not really have much value.

Health History
Users record their own very basic health history including physician information, alcohol and tobacco use, and sleep habits.

Mymedlab

In checklist format, users indicate health habits, medical history and which conditions are current. Then users enter allergies, medications, recent tests with dates and results, family history, and must acknowledge terms and conditions of the web site.

Lab Orders
Users may review available lab tests, choose the ones they wish to have, create a panel of tests and enter payment information for them. Costs are ENTIRELY covered by the patient and vary widely. A CBC with Differential, a very standard test, is $31.50 alone or $26.25 if part of a panel of tests. A CA 19-9 cancer screening test is offered for $76.50 or $63.75 as part of a panel. One Hepatitis B DNA by PCR test is $337.50. As you can see, the costs add up very quickly.

Locations
MyMedLab claims to have nearly 2000 Patient Service Centers, but when seeking a location during review, the message: Due to existing laws limiting consumer access to health care, we currently cannot provide service in your state was encountered.
