myMediconnect

Pros: myMediconnect (formerly PassportMD) is a service of Mediconnect Global with several options that utilize the global services. The video demo is well done and explains the PHR service very well. This application syncs with Microsoft HealthVault.

Cons: Users must enter all personal information to create an account before accessing the interface. Costs are incurred if users request that Mediconnect obtain records from doctors. Credit card information must be added for this and electronic signature provided – but the cost is not clearly outlined in the PHR.

The Bottomline: This free PHR holds plenty of information for an individual PHR. There is no option to have an entire family PHR in one account, but for individuals this is extremely thorough and very easy to use.

Medical Conditions
Users may use a simple search engine by typing the name of a condition into the search box. Options will be provided for the user to choose. The application will then ask the date diagnosed (optional – in cases where the user does not remember) and whether the condition is active.

Medications
Medications are added in the same way as conditions, with some additional information asked: the form, frequency, how the medication is taken and reason for taking. It also asks if the user is still taking this medication.

Allergies, Medical Procedures & Surgeries, Vaccinations, Doctors
All of these sections are menu driven, simple, and intuitive. The doctor section asks for the city, state, and name of the doctor and finds the information for the user. It then adds the address, phone, fax, and an option to indicate that this is the primary physician.

Portability Options
All PHRs may be printed as a full record, wallet-sized record, or downloaded to a USB or other device.

Safety Deposit Box
This is a section for records from doctors, x-rays, and other confidential files.

Health Tools
MyRemindeRx is a tool for setting up automatic appointment reminders. The Wellness Tracker asks for biometric information to set up registration for this portal. Within this area, users can set realistic weight loss goals with menus customized to their needs – complete with recipes and shopping lists. The Wellness Tracker also offers a fitness journal, blood glucose and other health monitors/trackers, and report section for summaries of fitness, glucose levels, BP, weight, and more.

Health Education
The Health Education section is connected to the Harvard Medical School Health Publications, offering a search option as well as several recent articles.
