My Medical CD
Pros: Personal health information is recorded to a mini
CD that will fit in a wallet. My Medical CD includes basic medical information
that may be edited by using the site Update page. Health care professionals
may use the Electronic Filing Box feature to view images.
Cons: Extensive information must be provided either by
internet or mail-in application. Cost is $49.95 USD for the CD + $29.95
for the Annual Security Maintenance Fee + $5.95 for shipping and handling
(additional CDs are $14.95 each). CDs are not as durable as USB flash drives,
so if the CD is kept in a wallet, it could become damaged. Updates are not
added to the CD, only the web page.
The Bottomline: My Medical CD is a basic PHR contained
on a mini CD for portability. Information may be added online or by printing,
completing, and mailing a PDF file. The initial costs are a minimum of $85.85
with ongoing costs of $29.95/year. The high cost and potential fragility
of the mini CD suggest that potential users may want to weigh other options
before committing to My Medical CD.

Easy Updates
Once a user’s information is burned to the My Medical CD device, updates
can be easily entered either on the Update web page or by calling the toll
free customer service number provided. It is important to note that updates
will be noted on the Update web page but will NOT be added to the CD as
it is not rewritable. New, revised CDs can be ordered at $14.95 + $5.95
shipping and handling.
Electronic Filing Box
This feature allows uploads to the online portion of My Medical CD. Any
image, lab result, x-ray, or doctor’s note may be added here. Again,
this will NOT be saved to the actual CD.

Medical History
The medical history section of the CD contains basic information regarding
conditions, medications, and healthcare providers. It is very important
to make sure that as much of this information is added as possible when
completing initial data collection because updates will not be added to
the CD.
Emergency Medical Information
This section provides a fast, comprehensive overview of the most important
information that should be accessed in an emergency situation. It includes
emergency contacts, allergies, medications, and insurance data.
