MotherKnows
Pros: MotherKnows gives parents 24/7 access to a child’s
medical records and history from the convenience of a smart phone or an
internet-enabled computer. The platform shows a full set of health information,
from allergies to immunizations to growth charts and physician consultations.
The information in the records is sent to the parents first for checking
before being uploaded and is virtually the same as that indicated in the
doctor’s physical records so you can be assured of no discrepancies. One
of the most important aspects is that the health data is protected through
encryption and is never shared with external parties. In addition, parents
have the say on who may access their children’s records.
Cons: The subscription-based personal health record (PHR)
is still in a closed beta testing period and is not yet ready for full use
by consumers. Once it has been launched, the annual cost to parents will
be $49 per year, which is a bit steep compared to other PHR providers.
The Bottomline: MotherKnows provides parents with convenience
in all aspects from setup to accessing records. Setup is a breeze. Upon
signing up, you’ll be emailed a PHR release authorization within an hour.
All you have to do is to affix your electronic signature onto the records
request. You may then see growth charts, past medications, immunizations
due soon, and so much more.

Update of Records
Doctors simply have to fax results of consultations and labs, which is legally
required especially if the patient asks for that information, and MotherKnows
takes care of the rest. Before uploading, the company sends the data to
the parents for double-checking. The parents will then have to confirm information,
affix their electronic signature on a release form, and send it back to
MotherKnows for processing. With this, parents would be assured of the accuracy
of the information that would be posted as part of their children’s records.

Appointment History
MotherKnows obtains your child’s records from each doctor’s visit so you
can easily see the reason for going to the doctor, the diagnosis that was
given, and the instructions that the doctor gave. This would prove invaluable
especially for children with medical conditions that require frequent visits
to different and constant intake of medications. For instance, if you’re
asked by another specialist about your child’s medical history, you can
just logon to the Internet and view your child’s records about past medications
and diagnoses.
Comprehensive Records
Through MotherKnows, parents can have 24/7 access to their child’s growth
charts, prescribed medications, physician diagnoses, allergies, immunizations,
and so much more. Should you need to print your child’s records, they are
available in PDF format. One very useful feature is that MotherKnows sends
reminders for upcoming immunizations.
Security
MotherKnows assures its users that all data will remain secure and that
the product follows the Federal HITECH and HIPAA acts. Data is encrypted
while in transit and while static. In addition, access to records is password-protected.
