Minerva Health Manager

Pros: The Minerva Health Manager is a portable personal health record (PHR) system that allows users to maintain and update medically relevant information on a home computer, to view health information on a mobile device, and to synchronize all data on a flash drive. This means that users can bring data anywhere they go.

The software caters to different types of users with its various editions – Personal, Family, Healthcare Agent, and Healthcare Provider. This means that health records may be accessed and modified by the user and family members. In situations where information about health status is critical, Emergency Health Records can be imported. Also, physicians can enter health-related information during checkups. MyMinerva website provides comprehensive information on product features and videos on how to use the product. A 7-day, free trial allows potential users to try the software prior to purchase.

Cons: The price of the software and the flash drive is $29.95 for the personal edition and $59.95 for the family edition. PHR set up is detailed which may be more complicated than the average user might want to do; detailed data must be manually entered.

The Bottomline: The Minerva Health Manager is a PHR system that’s portable and can be accessed through multiple types of devices. The software comes with one USB flash drive (an additional flash drive costs $9.95). It provides the appropriate level of information that physicians and emergency staff would require.

Personal Health Reports
Health history reports can be generated on many aspects of a user’s health history including Medical Alerts and Personal Health Record. Each health history report can be customized by report type (summary, detailed, or detailed with hyperlinked attached files) and the health sections (personal, family, all, or user-defined).

Medical Records Attachments
Medical records, images and documents can be easily attached so a doctor or a new specialist can access official test results.

Personal Health Journal
Recording health experiences can help users remember the details that are important to track or share with a doctor at the next visit. Minerva has a special Personal Health Journal section to make notations on anything that a user deems important to the personal health record.

Personal Health Graphs

A Personal Health Graphs tool provides a graphical display of lab test results, physical measurements and vital sign information contained in the Personal Health Record.

Health Industry Code Compliant
Minerva was developed with the language of health professionals in mind. For example, medications may be logged in the personal health record by Health Industry Codes such as the National Drug Code (NDC) number, the standardized identification system used for most drug products. Minerva allows users to include ICD-9 diagnostic codes, the health industry codes used by healthcare professionals to classify diseases and related health conditions that are often part of the records of treatments, office visits and more.

PHR Viewer
Minerva PHR Viewer allows users to view personal health records from a mobile device. The app is available for the iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad (iOS 3.2 or later) from the App StoreSM, and for Android ™ devices (Android version 2.1 and up) in the Android Market.
