MedicalSummary.com (MedSum)

Pros: MedicalSummary.com offers a secure online personal health record management tool.

Cons: Individual plans are available at a cost of $30. The Family Plan, including two subscriptions is $55 with a $10 charge for each additional family subscription. Group rates of 20 or more may contact MedSum for a specific quote. Each of these plans’ renewal costs are equal to the initial cost. A Lifetime Individual Plan is $75; a Lifetime Couple Plan is $135.

The Bottomline: The rates are quite high, especially without access to a trial. Users may view a sample account (see below), and it is difficult to justify the expense when there are so many free/low cost plans that are equally informative. Users are unable to try the interface to determine whether it is easy to use.

Summary:
MedSum is a PHR that is fee-based, depending on the number of people included in the plan. The data is securely stored and accessible online or may be printed. There is no trial plan, and viewing the sample, it is less reader-friendly than some other plans.

Included in the PHR are personal data, emergency contacts, medical history, current medications, physicians, allergies, immunizations, wellness testing, insurers, Living Will, dental and other. There is no way, without subscribing, to determine if any information is added via dropdown menus or must all be entered individually. Files may not be uploaded, so the Living Will section simply includes where the document has been filed.

In addition to the full PHR, subscribers receive a card with basic information and an emergency code for first responders in case of emergency.
