Medistick
Pros: Medistick
offers both USB and SD card storage options for portable health records.
With clear labeling and adequate storage space, medical professionals can
access a patient’s record quickly in emergency situations.
Cons: The Medistick is one of the least affordable models
of USB health records currently on the market. At a much lower price point,
patients could find similar devices with the same capabilities.
The Bottomline: Although the 512MB and 1GB devices offer
plenty of storage space and the health record is simple to update, patients
pay upwards of $70.00 (excluding shipping charges) for the portable health
record.

Medistick interface. Types of data that could be stored include a patient’s
dental records, a list of medical conditions, prescription drug usage and
allergy information.

conditions. The Sport Edition of the Medistick is constructed from two layers
of metal and has the highest level of durability. Tests conducted by the
manufacturer show that it’s not only waterproof and fire proof, but also
bullet proof.

Many patients may not know what to include when developing their own personal
health records. Medistick makes this task simple by offering up easy to
read templates with all of the details that medical professionals would
possibly need. Available fields include weight, height, diagnosed medical
conditions, medications and allergies.
Contact Storage
A comprehensive emergency contact list can be stored on a person’s Medistick
device. Contacts can include family members and friends who should be contacted
in case of an emergency. A patient’s medical professionals and contact details
can also be kept on his Medistick.
Search Features
A search features allows patients to locate the names of different medications,
supplements, allergies and surgeries. Patients must click the check box
to add their choices to the medical record.
Windows/Mac/Linux Supported
Most computers with a USB drive will be able to work with Medistick. System
requirements include the installation of Windows 2000 and higher, Mac 10.0
and higher and Linux Kernel 2.4.2 and higher.
Slim Design
The standard version can be placed on a key ring to transport place to place.
A slim version is one of the smallest USB products worldwide and is approximately
the same size as a credit card. The small size makes it ideal for wallet
storage.
Security
The level of security is completely up to the patient. They can choose to
encrypt the data stored on the Medistick or require a password to be entered
prior to health record access.
