MedFlash
Pros: MedFlash is a HIPAA compliant personal health record
management tool contained on online as well as on portable USB drive with
1 GB of storage. The software is easy-to-use and completely portable. MedFlash
allows users to take all of their information with them for access at provider
visits or in case of emergency.
Cons: MedFlash is not designed for multiple users. It is
recommended that each family member carry his/her own device at a cost of
$34.95 for each unit plus $19.95/year for membership – first year of membership
is free with purchase. For those who tend to lose track of things, the USB
may not be a reliable tool. Information must be edited online, not directly
on the USB. The website contains a large amount of third party advertising.
The Bottomline: MedFlash is a combination online/USB based
personal health record management tool. The cost is excessive if the plan
is being utilized by a family as each member requires an individual USB
and membership. While the keychain USB is convenient, it could be easily
misplaced.
