HealthProfiler
Pros: The HealthProfiler personal health record keeping
software is geared towards individual or family use. Users can create a
health profile for as many family members as preferred. There is one-time
payment only—no monthly or annual membership fee required. Interface is
pretty simple and intuitive—just click on a tab and enter data. Downloadable
demo lets you test the program and decide on your purchase. Record is customizable:
within the software, users can create a health notebook and their own library
of health resources.
Cons: All information is stored on your computer. There
is no Internet backup. In the event your computer cranks up, you may lose
all stored information. Since information is not stored in the cloud, you
cannot access it from any other computer. You need to download the software,
which means you have to make sure there’s space in your computer. Application
is compatible with Windows only. Mac and Linux users will have to look for
PHR options somewhere else. Price tag of $15 is rather costly, considering
the lack of cloud-based backup. Compared to newer PHR systems, HealthProfiler’s
graphic interface looks dated.
The Bottomline: HealthProfiler is a computer-based personal
health record software. The program has to be downloaded and installed into
a Windows computer before it can be used. It is targeted for Windows users
who lack Internet connection or who don’t feel comfortable storing personal
health information online.

Summary:
HealthProfiler is a PHR software
created in 2002 by a family physician based in North Vancouver, British
Columbia. The software is targeted for individuals, families, or organizations
who want to consolidate all health records into one program. There are three
modules within the program: health profile, directory, and references. It
comes with a free demo, allowing potential customers to experience all features
prior to purchase. The software, including the demo, needs to be downloaded
and installed on one’s computer.

Features:
____________________________________________________________
Health Profile
This is the software’s central feature. The health profile screen has tabs
for personal profile, emergency/family contacts, and practitioners’ contacts.
The health-related information covered is basic: allergies, medications,
vaccinations, lifestyle, family history, and ongoing health conditions or
problems. There are no tabs for test results or dental records and other
specialized information. Data is printable.

Directory
This is where you store addresses and contacts of insurers, clinics and
hospitals, physicians, and more.
References
There are no built-in references. Instead, users are free to build their
own library of resources (basically, health information found online). You
can organize content into categories to make searches easier.
Note Taker
A built-in word processor lets users keep a journal of health or non-health
related events. The note taker launches quickly and is easy to use.
Tools
The HealthProfiler software has several number of built-in tools for maintaining
personal health information and for getting things done quickly and easily.
HealthProfiler PHR tools include autodial of phone numbers from the program,
calendars, and calculators. If your computer has Internet connection, you
can also launch your Internet browser or email client directly from the
program.
