MiVIA
Pros: MiVIA is a secure online personal health record
management tool. The program was primarily designed to offer migrant and
seasonal farm workers in the Sonoma area a place to maintain all of their
medical information. All data is stored securely and may only be accessed
with the user’s permission.
Cons: MiVIA does not have an online sign up. Potential
customers must have a health practitioner in one of seven participating
groups to enroll. The utility was primarily created for farm workers (migrant
and seasonal) who may not have access to continuous health care and thus
is not available to the general public.
The Bottomline: MiVIA is an online PHR that was developed
to provide continuity of care for migrant and seasonal farm workers. These
individuals may not have medical records available to them when working,
so this online storage program is a great solution. They must sign up through
an affiliated agency in California, Oregon, or New York.

in varied locations.

Bilingual Access
MiVIA is available in both English and Spanish versions to increase accessibility.
Secure Storage
Data stored on MiVIA is completely confidential. No information is released
to anyone without the user’s permission. Information is password protected
and is the sole property of the user.
PHR
Individuals may store medical history, doctor names, immunizations, medical
conditions, insurance, emergency contact information and more. A photo is
included to ensure correct identification in case of emergency.
Emergency Card
Members may use their MiVIA card and photo as identification in emergency.
It will provide access to records in crisis situations.
Printable Reports
MiVIA users may print out summary reports to take to medical providers.
This will ensure complete communication of a member’s medical record to
the necessary providers.
Continuity of Care
Many of the workers who utilize MiVIA move from job to job and leave test
results, prescription information, and other crucial medical information
behind as they follow their work. By maintaining records in this online
PHR, data can be accessed from anywhere in the world via internet connection.
