911MedicalID
Pros: The 911MedicalID is an ultra portable medical card
with a foldout USB flash drive. About the size of a credit card, 911MedicalID
easily fits into any wallet. It is easy to use—just plug it into the USB
slot of any Windows-based computer; stored personal health information is
displayed in seconds. Online backup is available; even if you lose or damage
your card, your health record remains safe in MEMI Tech’s server. Members
can create personal health record of up to 10 family members. Stored data
is password-protected, and USB can double up as stock flash drive. Free
automatic software upgrades are available. Card is covered with a two-year
warranty and 1 month full money-back guarantee. There’s no monthly or annual
subscription—one-time payment is needed to enjoy the PHR services.
Cons: Storage space is limited. User interface, while intuitive,
looks outdated. Lack of support for Mac OS is unfortunate. The card is also
susceptible to physical loss or damage. The biggest issue, however, is whether
emergency caregivers, such as in a highway accident, have the required machine
to run the files. Accessing stored information requires having a computer
(Windows-based at that. Your information is thus inaccessible until you
get to a hospital. Cost is $39.99.
The Bottomline: The 911MedicalID is a thin and light ID
card that lets you carry your health information on a 1GB foldout USB flash
drive wherever you go. While internal memory is limited and access to information
is only possible when there is a Windows-running computer, it is a step
towards the right direction in reducing misdiagnoses and hospital paperwork.
